BACKGROUND STUDY

Communication as we know has now evolved over many centuries. The sophistication and complexity that define modern human communication are the consequence of a very lengthy and ongoing effort by humans to improve on one of the most fundamental aspects of their existence. Thus, the McBride commission has noted that, "As the world has advanced, the task of communication has become even more complex." To explain this complexity, Sifry,(2018). have this to say: "Throughout history, human beings sought to improve their ability to receive and assimilate information about their surroundings while also increasing the speed, clarity, and variety of their methods for transmission" (Sifry, 2018). As a result of the above argument, it can be said that the genesis of the media and its role to distribute information, particularly in the Nigeria setting, can be traced back to the age of the early press in the years 1800-1929. It was the first time a newspaper called "Iwe Irohin" appeared in the country.

Broadcasting is the dissemination of audio or visual material to a large number of people by any technical mass communication channel, most often the electromagnetic spectrum Sedra, (2015). Broadcasting is the technique of transmitting and receiving messages over the air using a scientific approach known as electromagnetic waves. These communications, according to Sennit, A. (2018), are converted into electrical signals in the studio. It combines the signal with the carrier waves produced by the transmitter and studio. The mixing allows electromagnetic waves to be sent into the air at high speeds through the antenna. As a medium, the waves are carried by the air, and the signals are received by the televisions in our homes and businesses. The notion of communication encapsulates the idea of communicating beyond state lines.

Broadcasting can also be defined as a type of mass communication in which information, news, and entertainment are sent to a broad audience using electronic transmitters. When just audio signals (sound and voice) are communicated, it is referred to as radio broadcasting; when both visual (motion images) and audio signals are conveyed, it is referred to as television broadcasting (Adeniyi, 2019).Worldwide broadcasting is a subset of international communication that focuses on using electronic and broadcast techniques to communicate with audiences in other nations. According to (Onabajo, 2018), broadcasting aims to objectively create information exchange through broadcasting.

Saffo,(2015) opined that the electronic and simultaneous transmission of information containing signals, print messages, and audio or video content to a large number of recipients via television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and digital media such as the Internet, emails, and texts via television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet is referred to as broadcast media. Broadcast media are instruments that may offer the public the genuine image of many environmental challenges such as sanitation and hygiene practices, global warming, waste management, clean water, climate change, deforestation, air pollution, and afforestation. Which are critical to our environment. As a result, it is critical that all stakeholders in society struggle for the preservation of the environment and effective management of our ecosystem in the benefit of our society Saffo (2015).
